Today is blog action day for blogging about poverty. Upon looking at the US Census pages on poverty, this line struck a chord of sadness in me:
The poverty rate increased for children under 18 years old (18.0 percent in 2007, up from 17.4 percent in 2006), while it remained statistically unchanged for people 18 to 64 years old (10.9 percent) and people 65 and over (9.7 percent).
How can the greatest country in the world tolerate one child going to bed hungry? How can we look the other way when we pass homeless children on the street?

We can and we do because we're often so busy chasing the almighty dollar that we don't see poverty right in front of us. We have neighbors who are hurting, hungry, poor in Spirit, and we're too busy to see, to help, to feed their body, mind and Spirit. I'm making it my business to wake up and see where I can help. I'll start in my neighborhood. How about you? How can you help in your neighborhood?
I had to say "Whaaaattttt?" when I saw the new Monopoly game. The little girl is so excited about winning faster because she doesn't need money. The game uses debit cards instead. There we go! Let's raise our grand kids to know nothing about money and only about sliding that little plastic card through the machine. True, plastic does represent the energy of money, but it takes it out of context. Just look at the bankruptcy courts today and see how that works!

Wheel and deal your way to a fortune even faster using debit cards instead of cash! All it takes is a card swipe for money to change hands. Now you can collect rent, buy properties and pay fines - with the touch of a button! It’s a new way to play the family classic that’s been brought up-to-date with modernized tokens (including a Segway personal transporter, an Altoids tin, space shuttle, flat-screen TV, baseball cap and a dog in handbag!), higher property values and locations based on your favorite landmarks!Gameboard comes with title deed cards, chance and community chest cards, 6 debit cards, 2 dice, 6 tokens, 32 houses, 12 hotels and instructions. 2-6 Players
The danger is just as great for our children and grandchildren to get hooked on credit as it is getting diabetes from eating poorly. Really, grandmothers unite! Take your grandkids for walks in the woods. Teach them the secrets of the forest! Raise them in love and not debt.

P.S.: Dollars to donuts my adwords are a monopoly board game!
America's Independence Day is tomorrow. We have many soldiers that are our heroes now. Living and dead, and those who have come back with a different body than they left with. Pray for our soldiers. Prayer will help. Prayer can move mountains. I believe in prayer.

I also believe in heroes. I thought that I would open the forum and ask each of you the following questions. I believe we can all be heroes in our lives and the lives of others. Please send me your answers. I'm interested in meeting the thousands of heroes reading this blog. Thanks and have a safe Happy Fourth of July Holiday!
