April 2007 Archives

I'm in sales and the last week seemed to be a very down week for our whole branch. I KNEW what was going on with me. I was hurting over VA Tech. I live in Columbine Valley, two blocks from Columbine High School and April always hangs heavy here in the Valley.

I lived in Blacksburg for seven years while my husband earned tenure as a professor at Tech in the School of Architecture. Charlie Steger was Dean of Architecture when I was there. His wife picked me up to welcome me, a new faculty wife, to the New Faculty Women's Tea.

I could see the pain in Dr. Steger's eyes just like I saw the pain in Frank DeAngelis' eyes after Columbine. Compassion, great sadness, wanting to hold them and heal their pychic wounds. That's what I felt. And if I felt that way, the rest of the world felt that way. At least here in Colorado. So "Bidnez" was down last week. We'll pull ourselves up again. Just wait till Monday the 30th!

There is nothing intrinsic to Blacksburg or Littleton that make them a magnet for violent rampages. The sad thing is, the vulnerability is everywhere. I recommend reading this book Violence by James Gilligan to better understand the reasons we live in a society awash in testosterone-fueled brutality.

WARNING…

CONGRESS COULD RESTRICT YOUR ACCESS TO BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES!!

TAKE ACTION TO STOP THEM!!

We are writing to tell you that the U.S. Congress is considering legislation known as the “Safe Drug Compounding Act that would severely limit the ability of compounding pharmacists to fill prescriptions for bioidentical hormones. This legislation could make it impossible for millions of women and men to gain access to safe and natural hormone replacement therapies. The measure, which was drafted by Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts), could be presented to a Senate Committee any day.

Fortunately, we have time to stop this legislation before it comes to a vote. This email provides you with an easy way to tell Congress to defeat this measure. Just go to the web site of Patients and Professionals for Customized Care (P2C2). The web site tells you more about the so-called Safe Drug Compounding Act and lets you quickly send an email to your elected representatives that states your opposition. Just click on the following URL. If that does not work, simply copy and paste the URL into your web browser.

If you have the time, we would also encourage you to write personal letters to your Senators, as they will be the first ones to consider this bill. You can find the mailing addresses of your Senators at the following web site:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

While powerful interests are trying to stop your access to bioidentical hormones, this is a fight that we can win. In October 2005, pharmaceutical giant Wyeth asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to restrict access to bioidentical hormones. Tens of thousands of us wrote letters to the FDA asking it to reject the petition. As a result, the FDA set aside the petition.

We need to raise our voices once again to let Congress know they are putting our health at risk. Please…click over to the P2C2 web site to send emails to your elected representatives. Then, PLEASE forward this email to your friends and ask them to do likewise. Thank you for protecting our freedom to choose safe, natural hormone replacement therapies!

Yours for good health,
